Sorry, I wouldn't use it because, like others said, I would have to
look actively for something. A mailinglist has something of a
newsletter and that's just fine.
For me the mailing list is fine, but maybe because I am using a gmail account exclusively for this list; gmail orders messages by thread and you can perform a search easily and choose which thread you are interested on.
On the other hand a bbs is more appealing, you can handle graphics and photos
