I was misreported, says Nik Aziz
KOTA BARU, Tues: Kelantan Mentri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat will not
retract what he said about women and vice at a ceramah last Friday because
his remarks were misreported. What was said at the ceramah was that certain
problems and vice were caused by some women who intentionally exposed their
aurat to attract men,' the Mentri Besar said in a statement read out by his
press secretary Mohd Fauzi Zakaria today.
'It was not directed at all women.'
Nik Aziz came under fire after news reports quoted him as saying women are
the cause of social problems and widespread vice activities in the country.
He said he made the statement while delivering his weekly Friday religious
ceramah at the party headquarters.
The question of him being anti-woman does not arise as he was clarifying the
needs under Islam in protecting the sovereignty and safety of women.
He also said that he is not upset over the reaction from the Wanita DAP as
it could have been influenced by the reactions from Umno leaders.
'However, I am unhappy with the attitude of the Umno leadership which defies
the rulings of God, but at the same time, more and more Wanita Umno members
are covering their aurat,' Nik Aziz said.
