I think it's safe to say that all of us are, but doing things like this
isn't going to make it be released any sooner. If the update is released
tomorrow, great. If it's never released, oh well. There's not much we as a

The code's already pretty much there in the sample light-mapping and
vertex lighting shaders that comes with the SDK it's just been disabled.

Well I've never actually tried to use a volumetric texture, I guess I
just assumed they weren't there :)

Oh, they aren't placed any differently. The issue is that the cubemaps
currently have their faces corrupted, they're rotated wrong or
something. The cubemaps have to be in 16-bit lightmaps now, in order for
them to display correctly. The engine's been updated to fix this, but
the compile tools

I'm kinda guessing/hoping that it's just the new tools that will be beta.
I'm kind of dreading the whole HDR map making thing.. I noticed that the
DoD:S maps are around 40mb each.
Apart from HDR, commentary and presumably the AI for that nose
i expect all lost coast stuff, inc new shaders (facial
bump maps), and fixes to the broken tools.
Valve, please update the complie tool source as well,
so that CST is compadiable.

browser that lets clients know that they are connecting to an unmodified

It would have been easier and long term more beneficial to add a Pure CVAR
than to restrict the freedom of server mod developers.
Let's take
community to stay alive.

HL1 Had 6 years of refinements, when it started out it was not exactly
amazing either.
I'm sure people like Alfred and the valve members really care about the
lets get mad at valve because they are probably use to it ;)
I think they just want to have their opinion aired, hoping that it
might make a difference.
Some sort of pure cvar seems like the best option. Maybe add it to
the existing interface, something like engine-SetUnPure();
That way server plugins that were admin oriented (ban/kick/slay/slot
