If you have fps_max set to 1000, this can cause choppy fps and give you an
inaccurate result because the fps will bump into the cap and try and
adjust itself. If you cap the fps_max to something like 2000, the engine
will be allowed to run at its full 1000 fps without bumping into the cap

I realise this is a bit off topic, but are there any plans to have any
feature additions to the HL1 engine in the future? There are many issues
that could do with being resolved too, but I do realise its got to take a
back seat to source at the moment.
Thanks
Jamie

If your doing that in cs 1.6, noclip does not work. There is no no-clip.

Have no fears.
When people talk here about 64bit binaries, they are talking about
server-side issues on a Linux system. Steam is 32bit so will run in Windows
x64 in that wow64 gubbins so will work as normal as if it were on an x86
system.

if ur using console put -secure in
All,
-secure is not a valid commandline
sv_secure is not a command to activate or deactivate VAC. It simply shows if
the server is secure or not. (0/1)
VAC will start automatically where -insecure is NOT in the commandline
If your server fails to connect to steam servers, try setting a -sport

I know this problem is solved by setting sv_lan 1, but this has been going
on since the last update and I almost cacked my pants. I was setting up a
CS lan listen server, it got as far as loading the resources then kicked me
back to the splash screen without error. So i took a look
Hi Bush
Demo files are nothing more then pure code containing player information and
positional data. It cannot be converted directly to an avi/mpeg etc. You
have to first playback the demo and record it while in the game. A couple
of ways to do it are either using a 3rd party program like

Its nice to know there is going to be a protocol update comming up soon for
the HL1 engine, thanks for letting us know. Will you be taking the
opportunity to to do some mod specific updates too? Seems like the best time
to do it. Also, do you plan to have any more releases for the back
I read on some forum, probly a cheating one or some news post, that C-D is
based on the same hooking method as the original OGC. If VAC2 has generic
methods of detecting ogc style cheats, then CD would most likely get you
banned. This was a while ago though, it may have changed since then.
This is correct, Vac2 is no longer downloaded onto the server then
transmitted to clients.
Its all done through steam/steam servers

Alfred,
What do you mean by optional? I always assumed an engine update was
automatically downloaded?
Does it mean an engine change, without a protocol change?

It is very frustrating really, im getting more disappointed as the weeks go
by like last week without an update at all. And it took the mick over a
week ago when they released a CSS update, which Optimized cpu usage and
that was it!
I always look forward to tuesdays and fridays because these are

The problem is, people are exploiting the game by setting lower rates.
This makes that player alot more difficult to hit without them losing
any sorts of performance
Nicely written, although I can correct you on one thing, I have tried and
tested this.
The sv_maxupdaterate sv_minupdaterate sv_maxrate sv_minrate do actually
work at capping clients to what they are set at. But the client still
displays their manually set rate, not the capped rate. For example:

This looks like a source update only. Still have to wait a little longer
for
hlds to be updated. Will be nice to have vac2 on the go and to be able to
join a hl1 server without the need to download a security module each time.

Dont forget to add the Secure (Valve Anti-Cheat) tickbox in the dedicated
server GUI.
By the way, I think VAC1 shouldnt just fade out of existance. I mean it has
done a good job. I think it should go out in style. Give it a nice update
a week or so before HL1 is updated to disable it to make
