The only problem i know i'm having with friends is the fact that now when
you connect to a server, you can no longer search for other games while you
are in game. You have to search though steam outside of the game.

Why dont you use the builtin FTP in windows?
Windows 2003 has it. But XP Pro also has a FTP server. Its hard to find but
i hear people can do. My friend did it.
