I normally open a new terminal session On the unix-server and open up iptraf.
When you run the tool, iptraf will show the address of the server, just note
that you will have to guess your way through. All i can say is that the port on
the peer address is mostly the same as the usual hlds-ports
Hello all, i have mentioned this problem before. Now i mailed valve about the
problem, and they just send me to the forums, where i've already have posted
the problem. I realised when i posted the problem that many people have been
complaining about this..
So what should we do? New servers
I have tried the update as root for the heck of it, and get the same
results. I run the network that the server is on, so it would have to be
something that the ISP (Level3) blocked I guess. Is there a way I can
know which servers / IP addresses it wants to connect to and possibly
the ports so

if it is a hlds server, it seems you are in good company.
If it is a orangebox or l4d server, or any new mod, there must be something
wrong in your network setup.

I have tried the heartbeat command, it has no effect. I have sniffed the
traffic and the master server responds to the heartbeat but the severs still
never show in the list. I have to run a really old server version to get them
to show in the list. Its a bug that needs fixing.

There is nothing wrong with his or my network setup. I can run an old server

This can be helpful for you, i had a similar problem some months ago. I were
told to try using a Steam.cfg file, which would tell the tool which content
servers it should use. That worked fine for me.

Generally these My server isn't on the list problems turn out to be you
not seeing the whole list. The most common issue is your home router's NAT
table filling up and preventing UDP traffic from other IPs.
Another possibility is your server is behind a NAT and you didn't forward
ports correctly.
When using setmaster, just set it to hl2master.steampowered.com

Nope.
I can run the old version and everything is happy. Upgrade and run from the
same directory with the same command line options and plugins and it never
shows in the list. If i run a new install totally generic it does not show
either, if i replace the binaries in the new generic install
The server has been heartbeated, or should I say the servers? as I was saying

What is this old version and upgrade version? Can you check the
steam.inf for each and look for differences? It may also help to give out
the IP/port for your unlisted server so that we can verify.

We're getting ready to release mandatory updates for TF2, CS:S, DoD:S, and
HL2:DM this afternoon. It'll be another hour or two before they're ready.
This is just an early warning of what's coming later today.

Obviously to give server admins SPECIAL HATS, obviously.

Players on a server are tracked now through clients on them. So, if a real
client connects to a server that runs fake players, guess whar happens. The
difference is seen by valves system and the server gets a bad score aka
eventually wont even show up in master server list.
