I would recommend using a mount --bind instead of symlinks. Not sure if it matters much for srcds, but it fixes issues with the server software I run. Issues include permission problems, and some applications I run can't see symlinks when they are used for folders. Only files.

I personally think that the system is backwards. I don't know of any secure environment where the client tells the server it's credentials. I suggest that you add servers to your group, the same way you add links and descriptions. Just add the ip and the port, and it can handle the rest.
