How can one have a full sound or characteristic sound on a high F or high E-flat-side ? This is contradictory. The only way to keep a full(er) sound might be, to stay on the Bb-side of your Pax 44 as much as possible use the high F side for high entrances only but returning to the Bb-side as

Timbre sound quality are not the same. That´s like clothes: look feel are very different. Even if they look the same, they feel completely different e.g. real silk synthetic silk. The inner quality is important not the camouflage. .. Loren

I would recommend a Holton 378 or 179 or a Conn 6D. I wouldn't recommend buying a Conn 8D (or Holton 188) if the horn is going to stay in the high school and be played by intermediate players. The large throat on the 8D is difficult for intermediate level players to fill up or control. I've

What would you do, if you sit in the pit for a long opera (horns in the back of the right side seen from conductors point, first horn next to the ramp of the stage), but a heavy light (10.000 W) is mounted on the stage ramp´s inner side, so the distance to your head is about 20 only ?

What are the popular models these days? Should he go ahead and invest in Conn 8D's, etc., or scale back a little? Is there much of a price difference between the professional mass produced horns and the student models? Is it worth saving a few hundred dollars for something less? Thanks in
