Hello, Last week, the Hong Kong Government has released a new version of HKSCS, called the "Hong Kong Supplementary Character Set 2001":
http://www.info.gov.hk/digital21/eng/hkscs/ The most significant change compared to the previous version is that, some characters have moved from the Private Use area of Unicode to outside of the BMP. Under an UTF-8 locale, is the core X11 protocol able to support characters outside of the BMP? I have an impression that it doesn't. If that's the case, does that mean that any application that wants to display these characters need to either use Xft/XRender, or draw them themselves?
