Any ideas how to find who has the dataset?

have you looked at SMF14 and/or SMF15 if you collect them or SMF42.6 if
the DSN is SMS around the time of the step failure?

Willie it certainly doesn't look like you've done too much HSM work.
Message seems WAD for what you've said that you're doing. What you may
have to look at for is the journal and automation that you have with that.

There is a non-reentrant program which, when executed via JCL from an
authorized library, fails with a S0C4.
/snip
As a debugging tool can you determine which subpool the module is loaded
into (that should clear up the non reentrant [et al] too) and what reason
code is the AB/S0C4

HSEND FREEVOL MVOL(HSM501) AGE(0) TARGETLEVEL(Ml2)

If you don't use AGE(0) with SMS DSN, then the management class for each
SMS data set is used to determine whether the migration copy is moved to
another volume.

I'm at a lost about several things that you mention (other apparently

Can the HSM.Backtape and ML2 tapes be unencrypted while the off-site
HSM.COPY.** tapes are encrypted?

From what RS indicated, it sounds like the T9840D device is either encrypt
or not (I don't know what those devices are like) which would mean that
you'd have to segregate allocation

I haven't looked up the messages but J1.4 seems old for a 1.9 system. I'm

is there a way to keep job output only if the RC 0 ?
/snip
What I've done is have a unique purge sysout class and then review the
job at end of execution (eg JES3 IATUX19/72 or JES2 exit51, maybe exit40)
to check the max return code and change the class then.

The DSORG is ? or NONE.
/snip
it is wise to have a default dataclass that assigns a dsorg=ps so you
don't have this problem.
