In IBM's defense, its a little difficult to document how SSH works on (all) other platforms. If you are implementing SSH on multiple platforms, it really helps to have a understanding of how it works. For this, I would recommend the OReilly book: SSH, the Secure Shell. FYI - z/OS Ported Tools is

That has been our biggest drawback, no direct access to mvs datasets via ssh. However, most of our users want to schedule the transfers via JCL, so ftp-ssl works quite well for us, but it is not standard on most unix boxes. If your package could be oshell'ed, then it should work from JCL ---
