the packages that you want. If some packages are not
there in the default installation, you will have to install them later.
After you are happy with your work, create an image so that you can install the
same system on multiple systems.

P.S. In any case, it is possible to restore the iPod
to factory
defaults erasing everything on the disk. Even if the
initialization
goes awry you can always connect it to iTunes and
restore it.

about 3-4 months before I could get it
