Here is an initiative to computerise the schools by providing IT
infrastructure and delivering good quality content.

Shiksha India was recently provided 40 Cr by M$ and from this project
alone M$ can gain about 1500 Cr if everything goes M$. Nice business
strategy.

The site www.shiksha.ernet.in is a pure M$ sell out.

Any one willing to investigate?

Dear Atul,

I cannot recall interacting with you earlier. Can you please let me
know what you are doing. The presentation is old one, things have
changed since then

Brief Note on Shiksha is as follows :

India is a country where poverty often comes from lack of
opportunities, which in turn is frequently caused by lack of good
education, especially in rural areas. Shiksha India ,a non- profit
organization supported by Confederation of Indian Industry(CII), has
been formed with the prime intent to spread computer literacy and
better quality of education across India.

Shiksha India has been formally associated with the The Ministry of
Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) to design and develop
the National Educational Portal(www.shiksha.ernet.in
<http://www.shiksha.ernet.in/> ) for the project Vidya Vahini through
which the Ministry aims to setup IT infrastructure and connect 60,000
schools across the country in 5 years. The pilot phase would cover 7
districts(150 Schools) across India in the first year. The portal
would enable students and teachers across the nation to access good
quality educational content in the public domain. Further it would
help in disseminating important information on health, environment,
nature etc. to students and the community.

Shiksha aims to develop interactive educational lessons that can reach
millions of children aged 14-18, at very low cost per capita. These
lessons, with the help of the computer infrastructure that the Indian
Government is installing, will help teachers, especially in poor
areas, to inspire children and teach them basics of essential topics,
such as those related to Mathematics and Sciences. 150 lessons,
lasting half hour each, are planned to be distributed to at least 2500
schools from day one, and reach around 30 million students in 5 years
across the country.
