Hello, I have always used stunnel to make imaps work. Now since the new imaps and pop3s features where added I WAnted to try them. But now if a clients connects using imaps the client gets an error to being impossible to establish the ssl connection. The imaps port is open but no ssl connection

That's a good point, you can't create a mailbox/subfolder that has a slash in it. I've found, however, that the ability to have a dot outweighs the loss of the slash. If you want you could simply edit the patch, it's basically a unified diff so you shouldn't have any problem going through

Folks, I'm unable to get cyrus-imapd's SSL support to offer reliable service, and I was wondering if anyone might recognize the problem. Essentially every SECOND connection to imaps fails. My test case is fetchmail client connection to imaps, but I see the problem with Outlook 2000 as well.

The latest version of imapd gets built with tcpwrapper library and hence you don't need to list it in /etc/inetd.conf. You would have to provide more details about your configuration and compilation options used, etc. If you are using "PAM" check if you have a config file setup for imap service
