I think I'm writing something already discussed here, but after some
days of search I couldn't find the answer, so I'm writing...
I've set up a cyrus server working almost fine. I still have a little
problem.
I've configured a few users for login, and other mailboxes accessed as
Other Users.

as far as i know the seen status is managed for each user, but the
other flags such as deleted, spam, or other custom flags are managed
per email and are GLOBAL.

That's really a two part question: should I back up the directory, and
should I backup the contents? I'm guessing the answers are yes and no
respectively.

No - the only things in there are files showing which process IDs are
connected by which user and what folder is
