A pretty decent morning in Western Shore.
DJIBOUTI (pres.) R. Sawa - 1431 kHz 0158UTC - AA mx probably Qu'ran, no ID
through TOH. Rcdg starts at 0159, signal strengthens towards TOH. My first
African MW catch ever, actually.
Flipping thru the December 2015 QST and, beginning on page 30, I
discover the article "Orthogonal Loops - A Medium Wavelength Receiving
System" by Joe Ostrowski, KI5FJ.
Most interesting. Includes construction details and switch control
schematic.

I opened one eye at 1300 UTC while still in bed at the Fish Barrel and noted

Not enough action to motivate me to leave the comfort of my warm sleep

It was a similar story here, except most of the action was at the low
end of the dial. At about 1500, I had carriers on 747, 774, and 972
that were going through the motions of pretending to sound like they
were attempting to fool me into thinking they were producing weak traces
of audio.

I did a couple of earlier patches of recording as well, that had a
bit of action, but overall, quite a dud morning, nothing like the
sunrise lift of yesterday. Although mostly Asia or hints thereof,
quite a strong carrier was also heard on 1638. (speculation about

It was one of those "almost interesting" days here. Seemed to be
a slight shift to DU from Asia compared to the last 3 days. Korea on
1566 and VOA on 1575 still made audio, but 1593 from China couldn't
quite do it today. Lots of carriers on the X-band, which hasn't been
the case of
