I'm not Nick, but I forgot to mention in my just-sent posting that I heard
the strong het on 774 this morning too. This around 1400 when I had decent
JJ reception on 774 and 594. In CW mode the beating with presumed JJ carrier
and the het made quite a raucous sound. Perhaps it's something coming
738 Tahiti was unusually good this morning briefly at 1322 utc. All the
Asian hets were much weaker at that time. But as I was still listening to
738, right at 1328 utc a strong IBOC hiss started and completely obliterated
Tahiti. The hiss was heard, weaker, on 720, so am assuming 730 was the IB

Not knowing any details about your setup or transformer, I'd remove the
transformer and check it with an ohmmeter; if good (isolation between
pri/sec windings, and continuity of each winding) I'd look elsewhere. (That
assumes the windings are not capacitively coupled to the input/output.)
This was my best morning this season for Asian TPs, with an enhancement
beginning around 1418 utc with JJ LF beacons being heard. Switching to MW
BCB at 1439 utc, 21 MW audios heard, along with the usual 5 LWBC Far East

580 KANA heard immediately at start; 680 KKGR 5 minutes later; 750 KERR
next. 1290 KGVO apparently is not running the DX test; I heard their voice
ID at 0100 MST, running regular programming, also another ID after the TOH
Fox news. No sign at any time of a DX test. Same for 930 and 1310 so far.
Conditions were much like yesterday at first, with the usual LWBC 153, 180,
189, 234, 279 heard, and many MW hets with 828 with audio around 1310 utc.
PNG's KUT and GA also heard then. Soon after 774 and 594 had audio, 1318
utc.
With local sunrise at 1501 utc, 1566 began as weak audio at 1444utc
Early evening had the best results, with a few heard later on. This morning
was poor but managed to add a couple more, from sitting on a freq for
awhile. As Dave mentioned, no ZLS heard.

Last night I attempted to look at the 1610 tone thing, using CW mode and my
very narrow 6Hz bandwidth filter I use for ndb's. Using my calibrated high
stability timebase R75, I had the S9-level 1610 carrier on 1610.028 with a
precise 1000Hz standard AM modulation, with lsb on 1609.028 and usb on
I'm easily hearing the tone in any mode, here in NE Oregon. It's weak and
not dominant, but easily heard on the E/W longwire. The NW/SE outside loop
doesn't have it as strong. When it was on 1610 the loop had the stronger
signal.

My check of the band this morning had 1557 at the best level I can
remember hearing it. From about 1500-1515 utc it was at poor/weak level
with pop music and a male DJ between tunes; the last bit had some type
of male opera music, from what I could tell. Asian, of course, can't say
who it was.
1450-1510 utc was the peak for me this morning.

The auroral conditions really helped for Pacific reception this morning;
low band hets on almost every channel. Even my poor antennas produced a
couple with audio, all presumed DU, with English music and talk. 891 the
best, as it used to be from the old location with E/W longwires.

far this year. I'm thrilled my poor antennas are still getting some
Pacific reception compared to the longwires I used at the old location.

I enjoy reading the west coast reports of TP reception. The past week
I've been trying some of that too after seeing reports of good
conditions return. But this morning wasn't good here. Lots of weak hets
but very little audio. Even 1566 HLAZ never produced audio.
