[Issue 127365] New: Table border weight and color cannot be edited once border is set to "none"

  Issue ID: 127365
Issue Type: DEFECT
Summary: Table border weight and color cannot be edited once
border is set to "none"
   Product: Writer
   Version: 4.1.3
  Hardware: PC
OS: Windows 10
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: Normal
  Priority: P5 (lowest)
 Component: formatting
  Assignee: issues@openoffice.apache.org
  Reporter: rmlip...@asu.edu

Screenshot of the "Line Style" and "Line Color" Table pop-up menu options used
for recreating the issue

Apache OpenOffice 4.1.3
AOO413m1(Build:9783) - Rev. 1761381
OS: Windows 10 Home

When creating a table in OpenOffice Writer, it is possible to properly change
the weight and color of the border for the table. However, once the table's
border weight is set to "none", it is impossible to add the borders back by
setting the weight back to something other than "none" or by changing the
border's color.

Steps to recreate the issue:
1. Create a new text document in OpenOffice Writer 4.1.3.
2. Create a table in this text document by clicking Table>Insert>Table
3. Pick any dimensions for the table. Multiple tests with multiple dimensions
found that the size of the table is not relevant for this bug.
4. After the table is created, first make sure that the weight and color of the
border can be changed. Test this by clicking one of the cells inside the table,
using Ctrl-A to select the table (if there is text in the cell, you may need to
press Ctrl-A again to highlight the entire table). Then, using the Table pop-up
menu, change the "Line Style" and "Line Color (of the border)".
5. Next, use this same pop-up menu to change the "Line Style" to "none". This
should properly remove the border of the table. There may be a faint grey
border still visible, but this is for editing purposes only.
6. Once again, use the Table pop-up menu to try and change the table weight
back to something other than "none". Here, OpenOffice Writer will not properly
add the border back to the table.

sheet to search, cellĂ—5

1: Open searchcm.ods, click cell A1, search (^f) for 'cm', set to replace with
'xyz', click Find. 'cm' in multiple-cell C2 is found. 2: Click Replace: Input
line changes to 'xyz', but not the cell content. 3: Minimize the window,
restore it: cell content is now 'xyz'.
Do the same with searchcm2.ods, where the multiple-cell is only double,
with a zoom factor of 300. Step2 gives a split cell C2: 'xyz' in row 2, and
'cm' in row 3; both truncated. Step3 updates the cell content to 'xyz'.
Apparently, there is a multiple-cell-refresh problem.

Screenshot of the word count

Running on Win10 Pro

OpenOffice 4.2.0 AOO420m1(Build:9800) - Rev. 1784055
Rev.1784055

Problem:
When opening the Word Count view in Writer, the numbers on the right side are
not fully visible, and seem to be cut off.

To replicate:
1. Open a new document in Writer
2. Open Word Count

There seems to be no difference if the document has words or not, meaning the
numbers change from 0 to something else. There seems to be a visible vertical
line where the numbers are cut off.

I agree with mroe that this is a completely different issue than issue 124496.
This issue is concerned with a specific font rendering differently between
different versions of AOO on macOS. Issue 124496 deals with different variants
of fonts (bold, etc.) not being available in the AOO fonts dropdown. I believe
that this issue should stand alone to allow a Mac user to confirm.

I believe that we have gone as far as we can at this point. The problem as I
see it is a core difference between the two formats as to how they treat page
styles. In Microsoft's doc format you can only have one page style per document
in odt format you can have multiple page styles.

My suggestion would be to work and save the document in odt format and then
export to PDF format so that others can read it. If for some reason you have to
convert to doc format I believe there is a way to get around the core problem
by using sections. It can add a fair amount of (I believe unnecessary)
complexity to the work flow.

I am going to close this as not an issue. If you want to further explore
possible alternatives iwould refer you to either the user mailing list at
mailto:us...@openoffice.apache.org or the user forum at
http://forum.openoffice.org/

Image showing what appears in writer

Operating System - MacOS 10.11.6
Software - Writer 4.1.3

When opening a Microsoft Word document(.docx) that contains a bullet point list
with multiple tiers of bullet points. The first level of bullets appears as a
question mark while all other levels show the correct symbol.

Testing method:

1. Created a new document in Microsoft Office 2016
2. Created a bulleted list with multiple tiers of bullet points
3. Saved the document as docx
4. Opened the document in writer 4.1.3
5. Confirmed first tier bullet point is a question mark instead of a dot

This issue occurs even when using the document conversion wizard to convert
docx to an .odt format
