You shouldn't need a special configuration to set up server-to-server
communication with Google Talk.

Exactly. XEP-0198 was designed in part to emulate the acks in BOSH. It
doesn't make sense to do XEP-0198 acks in addition to BOSH acks.

That is a sensible approach to implementation (I am not a jabberd2
developer so I can't say for sure). But it's not clear to me how that
implemenation detail aligns with your initial request.

Do note that this business about acking the roster pushes was not
clear in RFC 3921 (the precursor to RFC 6121), so it is possible that
jabberd2 is following the older way of doing things.
