David, I believe your method succeeds in closing the Office clipboard on my computer. I'm not aware of getting confirmation, but I notice a change in behavior. Unfortunately, the problem persists, suggesting the cause lies somewhere else. I'm leaning toward resigning myself to my workaround

Mike, Yes, I unloaded and reloaded JAWS each time, and yes, I've deleted the clipboard numerous times. Right now, I'm finding that shift-tabbing from the message field to the subject line and tabbing back again stops JAWS from verbalizing the clipboard. It's a relatively fast workaround. But
