Hi all,
I ultimately are seeing many of you referring to VFO instead of Freedom
Scientific when requiring JAWS technical support.
Since international customers have to buy or get support through dealers or in
some cases governmental agencies, I'm not very aware on what is exactly VFO. Is

Hi Denis,
JAWS 16 and later doesn't support Windows XP. I copy you information on release
notes for JAWS 16 pertaining this.
JAWS 16 Discontinues Support of Windows XP
Microsoft discontinued support for the Windows XP operating system in April of
2014, 13 plus years after its initial release.
Hi Mike,
The help tells the following:
It is not necessary to have the same operating system on both ends of the
connection. For example, one computer can be running Windows 10 while the other
is running Windows 7.
However, help does not say anything about a computer controlling a target

If you don't find a free dropbox there is sendspace.com. It takes a little
playing but it is manageable.

Is there still a free version of dropbox? A few months ago I had to wipe my
hd and reinstall windows. I went to the dropbox page and I did not see the
free version. In the past few years I only used it twice. Once again I now
need to send a very large file.

Hello Mike:
Glad you solved it, nothing to thank me for, this is an excellent list where
we help each other as best we can and you do a lot of the helping. Even old
experienced JAWS users like many of us in the list need help from time to

Hi Pam,
There's a little program call, Ad Block Plus, that you can install & you can
set it to block most or all ads. You can even customize it for personal
sites you visit most often. Check out the link below for Chrome.
Hi,
I am finding that if I am arrowing down through content on a web page with
Chrome, focus can suddenly change to where an ad is being displayed, and then I
have to find where the content I am interested in is again.
An example of a page where this is occurring is:
Yeahwhen I first got this computer I quickly set the UAC notification to
0%. After a while of installing programs and doing other things with the
system, I kind of realised how those notifications were there to help me.
All it is is one one extra keystroke. And if you end up in a situation
I think you have other things going on here besides UAC, if your Windows
Defender is coming up. You may need to disabling scanning in Windows
Defender after you adjust UAC.
Type UAC in your search Box.
Select User Account in the results.
3. Use the slider and select "Never Notify".

Hi Humberto,
I am running the computer as administrator, & have got the problem solved.
I wasn't getting the UAC dialog to press the Yes button, but after setting
the slider to 0, pressing the Okay button, I then pressed, Alt + Y, &
everything is good now. Thanks mooy moocho for your help.
You really don't want to do this, annoying as the dialog is, I did it once
and three days later had a computer disaster. Hate it too but live with it.

Hi Mike,
Have you tried installing it as administrator? I am certainly no expert,

Thank you all for all your help. What was happening was I wasn't getting

I've had a similar issue before. Of course, when you go to disable uac, and
choose ok, uac comes up and asks if you really want to disable it. The
experience I had was that jaws didn't read the uac message at that point for
some reason, so once you've clicked ok after choosing, set uac to zero,
Done. Thanks. I have to rearange how my PC looks because 2 weeks ago, my W10
was not letting any of my devises work.

Hi Holger,
You might need to make Winamp to re-associate the files. Open Winamp
Preferences dialog with CTRL+P, go to the File Types leaf in the tree view,
press the button to select all file tipes and then the Close button or ESCAPE
key.
A UAC dialog asking for Winamp elevation should appear,
