Does this happen every time or occasionally? Sometimes that happens to me and I just have to reload the page. I'm sure you have already made sure the page was maximized. You're right in the fact that the refresh button doesn't help. I would just go back with alt left arrow and try it again.

What list box are you in? What does it say exactly, or can you tell? Sometimes JAWS needs a fresh view of the screen so if you hold down insert and hit escape, JAWS should say screen refreshed, or screen updated. There might be something going on that JAWS needs a refreshed screen to see. AVG

What version are you using of JAWS? I understand that with JAWS 9 and up it is easier for a sighted person to see what we are doing. It's been a problem for me in the past also. With the virtual viewer on, you are seeing the screen as JAWS sees it, not necessarily as a sighted person sees it.
