There is an option called preferences in the adobe updater, but not sure how
to get to it without an update being available.

hi, activate preferences by pressing the key combination control k.
make sure u r in gendral ta options in the tree view. give tab till u hear
check for updates check box un check it and hit enter on OK thats it it does
not check for updates
I think that the inability to turn updates off started with version 8.
