[JAWS-Users] creating new folders in jaws17

I am on a windows 8 with jaws 17. In jaws 15 I use to be able ot use control space to select nothing, then use applications key to create new folders, files, emails. My application key quit working, when I press it, it does nothing Is there something I did to do this? Can I fix it? Thanks
