Re: [JAWS-Users] Question: Rewinding in Windows Media Player?

2014-02-01 Thread David Bailes
Hi Alexandra,
In Windows vista and later you can do the following - not sure about xp. Tab to
the seek slider. Pressing LEFT ARROW or RIGHT ARROW moves the playback backward
or forward by one twentieth of the length of the track. If you add SHIFT or
CTRL to these keystrokes, then the distance moved becomes one four hundredth or
a fifth of the length of the track respectively.
If you're using vista, then you can get to the seek slider quicker by pressing
ctrl+tab one or more times.

David.

original message:
Hi List,

I hope someone can help me. In school my students have to use windows media
player. I read in the menu that the short cut to rewinding or moving
backward in a track is supposed tob e control shift b. But in the menu it
keeps telling me that it is not available and the key stroke ctrl+shift+b
doesn't work either. What do I have to do to make it work? The fast forward
ctrl+shift+f works fine.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

[JAWS-Users] List Guidelines Reminder

2014-02-01 Thread Moderator
Hello and welcome to the JAWS Users list. This list has been created for The
purpose of discussing all aspects of the JAWS for Windows screen reader
Program.

So everything that pertains to JAWS is fair game. Such as asking about what
software packages work well with JAWS or how to make them work even better
with
scripts, keyboard short cuts and so forth. Another example could be
requesting information on how to do something in Microsoft Word, which as we
all know
works very well with JAWS, but you need to know how to do a certain task or
want to learn a way to accomplish it more efficiently.

Now this is a very important point in my opinion, asking the list for exact
instructions every time is not a good thing to do for a major reason. It
creates
a dependency situation even if you don't realize it does. The ideal place I
am hoping the list will arrive at some day is that everybody no matter how
new they might happen to be with JAWS or computers will have the confidence
to try things on their own, and yet feel if they get stuck the list will be
there to help put them back on track. Trust me when I say that help is
quicker to arrive for somebody who is well known to ask for it last than
first.
So try it yourself first whatever it is. If you get stuck then let the list
know what you've done to try and resolve your current dilemma. Then I'm sure
help will arrive with in short order. Next a post asking if there is a
software package that does a specific task and works well with JAWS is
perfectly
fine.

The rules of conduct are quite simple and straightforward. Be polite and
Patient with others. There will be absolutely no fighting, and no bashing of
Freedom
Scientific on here at all. If you have a problem with them then I suggest
you take it up with Freedom Scientific directly.

Please try to keep subject lines relevant and descriptive as possible. Also
any newsletters except those that directly pertain to JAWS should not be
posted
to the list prior to receiving moderator approval.

Attachments are removed before any message is sent to the list. This is done
for your protection. The message list might state that there is an
attachment
but in fact Mailman does remove them.

When contacting any of the list moderators privately please be descriptive
in the subject line as to the purpose of the message. Many of us simply
delete
messages from people we don't know. At the present time there are over 650
subscribers to this list, so we can't possibly know everybody on here.

Also, if you have a question for the list that falls within the guidelines,
then post it accordingly. Don't contact the management team with questions
that
are more appropriate for the list itself. Your question may or may not
receive an answer for a number of reasons.

Everybody should familiarize themselves with the content contained in the
footer message that accompanies every message posted to the list.

Occasionally there might be some difficulty with your email address and you
may receive an email from the Mailman program asking you to reactivate your
account. Please do not simply delete this message. Instead open it and
follow the directions to reactivate your account. If you do not after
receiving
a number of such messages then the Mailman program will remove your email
address automatically.

The discussion of anything illegal is absolutely forbidden, along with
flirting or other such inappropriate activities. This is not a high tech
swap shop
or anything of that nature at all. This means that goods and or services
will not be bought or sold using this forum. If you know a given subject is
off
topic then don't post it. Simply placing off topic in the subject line does
not make it all right. Cross-posting is not permitted, and members should
only
post in the following manner:

Using the TO: field with only one list address. The SUBJECT: field should be
short and to the point without including any member names.

The reason for this is that in cases where people setup their message rules
to go by the to: field often times such rules get fouled up and in effect do
not work properly. Also cross posting might allow you to reach many lists at
the same time but the fact is such a post might not be on topic for each and
every list. This practice does nothing but clutter up such lists with
unwanted off topic messages along with annoying the list moderators. Lastly
please no jokes, virus warnings, recipes, safety tips, or pleas to help
dying
kids, should ever be forwarded to the list.

Forwarded messages and attachments are not permitted. If you have an article
or message of interest which relates to the

Nature of this list send it to the list owner and if it is appropriate, it
will be posted to the list. Additionally if you

want to make an announcement about another list send it to the list owner
for consideration. Do not post it to the list before obtaining approval.

No auto responders are to be used on this list! Those who use auto

[JAWS-Users] Edit field in WLM

2014-02-01 Thread Richard Hamel
Hi all,

   JAWS 15.0 and Win 7.

Boy, these Win 7 ribbons are killing m, oh well, on with my question..

How do you modify the edit field in WLM?

I can not find how to access the edit field.

I've tried looking in the menu/ribbons but can not locate any settings for
editing e mails.

When I send an email in WLM, it seems like there is only space on each line
for 1 or 2 words.

This is also true when I am replying to an e mail.

I am also looking for setting the spell checker.

When I reply, the spell checker also reviews the message thatI am replying
to.

Thanks for any help.

Rick has kindly drop boxed my script back to me, so strange that I didn't
keep a copy of it. Never the less it could be added to your menu script at
some future date. That's the beauty of that kind of a script, you can add to
it virtually unlimited times. Just as long as there is hard drive space and
given the size of script files opposed to the size of disk drives.

It's been so long since I wrote it I will have to make sure nothing needs to
be adjusted.

[JAWS-Users] Skype auto recorder

Re: [JAWS-Users] MS word 2010auto correction for ****

2014-02-01 Thread Brian Lee
Hello Leonard,

First of all, I am using Word 2013 but I think the steps are pretty much the
same in Word 2010.

One thing you might consider is using a symbol field. It would be a little
awkward so you might want to make a macro to do the steps. You can use this
approach if you know the number representing the symbol.

1.In Word 2010 use Alt followed by N followed by Q followed by F.
You will be in a list of field names.

2. Press S followed by Y quickly to move to the symbol field name in
the list. Otherwise, just keep pressing S until you hear the symbol choice
announced.

3. Tab to the character number and type in 42.

4. Press enter key to insert the symbol. Pressing the enter key
enters the symbol without any changes from the default such as font type,
size and whether or not it affects line spacing. In Word 2013 it uses the
default Calibri 11 point. The inserted symbol using the number 42 is pretty
much identical to the appearance of the asterisk.

You would have to do the above steps four times to get the four characters
so the macro might be a good idea. You could also use the redo function
three times.

Take care.

information into Excel 2007. Can you recommend a JAWS friendly free online
conversion service? I tried using Zamzar without much success. It kept
asking me to choose a file to convert which I did. The path name was
visible, but the PDF file wouldn't convert.

Thanks.

Derek

Are you using regular Skype or GW connect? If the later the free ones out
there will not interface properly and won't work. This is according to
support @ GW Micro.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Skype auto recorder

Hello list,

So I need to participate in a conference call later next week and want to
record it. I plan on using Skype, but as I’ve never tried recording a call
with Skype, this is somewhat new to me.

I poked around online and came across a Skype plug-in called Skype Auto
recorder and wanted to ask if anyone’s had any experience with this
particular plug-in and if it’s worth trying? That, or is there perhaps some
other recording solution that may in fact work better?

I’m a Jaws 15 user if that makes any difference. And yes, I do know about
having to notify the other party that they’re being recorded.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks,

[JAWS-Users] Need to partition the C drive into two parts with the help of jaws

2014-02-01 Thread Mohib Anwar Rafel
Hi friends in my laptop C drive consists of 153gb, which I want to
split into two parts, 53 and 100gb each. only 37gb of this space is in
use. I am using Win 7 professional registered version with jaws 14. So
far I have tried through disk management, it is only shrinking the
sise of the drive but not splitting this drive into two parts. And
this disk management is giving predefined sise upto which it can be
shrinked. Say for e.g. it is giving me 21755mb for shrinking which
made my drive to 131gb from 153gb but didn't make new drive. More over
I tried through AOMEI partition assistant pro edition, but it seems
not compatible with jaws. Please help me to split my C drive into two
parts, as I have 110GB free space on my C drive.

Partition Assistant is accessible with Jaws, perhaps this demonstration will
help:

Even though the demo is with the home edition, the principles are the same.
Keep in mind that Windows requires a minimum of 15 percent free-space to
perform maintenance and proper operation.

Tomorrow's another day, another way!
and if tomorrow never comes, problem solved!
