Shift+Alt+c and Shift+Alt+R did not work.

Insert+Alt+c and Insert+Alt+R read the column and the row.

There are other keystrokes that can be used to read titles in addition to
the way I mentioned, but the original question was about getting the titles
read out as you move around with Alt + Control + arrow keys.

Alt + Shift + C and Alt + Shift + R will reread the column or row title, but
I think these need to be set up in the way I indicated first - I could be
wrong there.

And I still like Alt + 1 to read the top cell in the current column, and Alt
+ 7 for the leftmost cell in the current row.

So those long ago jaws keystrokes..alt-control-c for column and R for Row
don't apply any longer here?

So it is all a matter of getting JAWS set up correctly? I don't have to do
any thing special with in Word?

Thanks,
Annette

Annette,

Yes it is. Put your focus in the first cell in the table (Alt + Control
+
Home while in the table) and then press Insert + V to open the Adjust JAWS
dialogue. Press S until JAWS reports "Set column titles row - not defined
for table 1" and press SpaceBar to change it to row 1 (because that's where
the cursor was when the dialogue was opened). DownArrow to "set row titles
column - not defined for table 1" and press SpaceBar to set that one.
Then
press Enter to close the dialogue and JAWS should say "document settings
saved". This means that JAWS will remember the titles for this table of this
document the next time it is opened. If there are other tables in the same
document, the titles will need to be set up for each one.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Getting JAWS to announce Column and row headers in
aWord table

Hello All,
Is it possible when working in a MS-Word Table to have JAWS read the column
headers and the row headers, as you use Control+Alt+Arrows to move around in
the table? I have a table with 6 columns and 6 rows. Column 1 is called
stations. So the first cell in each row is the name of the station, i.e.
soup, main dish, dessert, beverages, etc. Columns 2 through 6 are the days
Monday through Friday. I would like to be able to hear the column headers
when I move from column to column, and hear the row headers when moving up
and down in a column. Is this possible? What do I need to do to the table do
have this happen? What do I need to do with JAWS to make this happen?
Thanks, Annette
