Thanks all! I discovered the problem was that the slashes in the ant.properties file were going the wrong way. ant.home = D:\java\jakarta-ant-1.5
should've been ant.home = D:/java/jakarta-ant-1.5 Made the switch and now it works beautifully! Eclipse is pretty cool. I now have something to colour code the xml, the java and a browser for the mysql database all in one app!
