Variables are referenced using ${NAME} not $(NAME), and you don't need
Javascript to use them, so try using
...UID${UID}/UID...
You might find it worth upgrading to version 2.0.1, which has more
features and a lot of bug fixes.
You can check what JMeter is sending by using the Tree View
