MANDARIN  LETTUCE  SALAD

1/4 c. sliced almonds
1 tbsp. and 1 tsp. sugar
1/2 bunch romaine
1/2 head lettuce
1 c. chopped celery
2 green onions with tops, chopped
11 oz. mandarin oranges, drained

SWEET  AND  SOUR  DRESSING
1/4 c. vegetable oil
2 tbsp. sugar
2 tbsp. vinegar
1 tbsp. parsley
1/2 tsp. salt
Dash pepper
Dash Tabasco

Shake and refrigerate.

SALAD:  Cook almonds and sugar over low heat.  Stir constantly until
sugar is melted.  Cool and break apart into small pieces.  Store at
room temperature.  Tear up lettuce and romaine.  Place in bowl and
add rest of ingredients.  Toss with dressing just before serving.
