Well, whatever you've done fixed it (not necessarily dolphin itself). I now
have the same performance with doplhin4 and dolphin5 (16.04.3), viewing the
same share I always test it with.

Btw, there were more icons missing for me as well before updating to kicontheme
5.24.0-2 on arch linux, but that got solved by that update. I have also tried

Ok, it just happened again. Once it's triggered, any action suspending
compositing triggers it again. Once I noticed it, I tried to start mpv with -vo
x11, and it also makes the issue

It's really hard to reproduce, sadly. I tried launching it like 50 times and so
far it hasn't happened. Same for explicitly disabling the compositor and using
-vo x11

Oh and all "udisksctl power-off /dev/sdx" does in my case is spin the HDD
down then up again.
