SUMMARY
Since it costs money to spawn a server to offer/host a KDEConnect online
service for users on networks who cannot use KDE Connect locally, why not offer
that as a PAID service instead? Communist users will disagree about the
commercialization so you'll have to justify the decision. There's nothing wrong
about asking for money for offering a service anyway. Plus it could potentially
become a revenue source for the project or KDE as a whole - who knows.
