Wow, I'm very sorry to be a bother, but since I saw VLC mentioned a few times
in the traceback, I uninstalled phonon-qt5-vlc and replaced it with
phonon-qt5-gstreamer, and now Kdenlive opens fine. I'm still happy to help
debug if anyone wants to get things working properly with the VLC backend, but
my problem is resolved.
