I find very promising to be able to map metadata with namespaces.
I'm wondering why this limited to tags, rating and comments.
Why not the other metadata like City, Sublocation, Province/State, Country and
other Latitude, Longitude, Contact, Subject, etc... ?

In some extend it is possible with Digikam to define some metadata in database
and write them into files only when one wants to do it (publishing for
example).
But some other metadata are not manageable "without" writing info into files.
Would it be possible to allow their definition directly in Database ?

As a corrollary a fluid equivalence between
Description/Tags/Information/Geotags (in database) and metadata would be set
(if I set City in Information the corresponding metadata should be
synchronized).

OK, thanks.
Assuming all metadata could be saved in the xmp structure, I've checked the
path:
1. Informations + Tags + Geolocation (all information are in database) => 2.
Right Side Bar Metadata / 3. XMP => xmp file.
All information flow from 1. to 3. except (not seen in 2.):
- Description / Pick label, Color label and Rating
- Informations / Subjects (I could not define them from templates)
- Map / Altitude, Latitude & Longitude

Unlike other Metadata (managed by Item/Edit Metadata), geolocation is stored in

But Item/Write Metadata to File doesn't write the geolocation to the file, as

On Mageia DK 5.6 shows the geotagged pictures on the map. But it is far slower
than DK 5.6 under windows (30 sec against 5sec to display a bloc of 6000

starts to be responsive with blocs of image below 1000.

Digikam 5.6 Map Linux with number

I've checked that DK had the same metadata configuration on both side, Linux

On Linux the appimage shows the same issue while on windows all seem ok and
fluid.
Some comments for Linux:
- On the attachment we see a single point, where longitude and latitude are
null.
- What does mean the "2E4" where we should have the number of images ?
- The thumbnails view remain empty
- If I try to play a little with the buttons DK freezes

I see another releted difference between the 2 versions.
With DK 5.5, when the image has no geolocation in file but have it in databse,
the thumbnails view shows the geolocation symbol. DK 5.6 doesn't.
The right slider Filters / Geolocation filter shows the same difference. DK 5.5
shows the images with geolaction in database. DK 5.6 doesn't.
I would love not to be obliged to write geolocation (as anyother metadata),
especially on orignal files.

If I understand properly the Item / Edit Metadata are data embedded in files.
Are they stored in database too ?
I understand also there is no synchronization between metadata window and
Information sidebar.
As I've no metadata in files, these metadata are then empty. I get this.

But why when I enter a value in whatever field (like country or city), click on
Apply, the value disappears immediately ? I haven't any chance to save the data

The thumbnail view offers the possibility to see similar images (source and
outputs) together (View/Include Album Sub-tree). OK.
I can group these images. Perfect.
But when I look at a subfolder from which some images have been grouped to
images in another (sub)folder these images do not appear anymore. This is like
I had moved these images from their original (sub)folder to another.
In that case the grouping is OK. But I should always see my images in their
