It happens only on Xorg session. After experimenting with different options in
kwin I will say that it doesn't matter if it's Xrender/GL2/GL3
crisp/smooth/fast scaling, or if animation speed is changed. Vsync options also
don't matter.

My system is affected. When there is not enough space on either side of popup
then it should show itself on a sensible place, insteads it covers previous
menu.

Tested with dolphin and kate.
Other problem may be related, systemsettings left sidebar mouseover tooltips
are misplaced. They should be rendered near cursor, instead they show in top
left corner of a window.

[plasmashell] [Bug 393820] New: Global shortcuts stop working on X after starting Wayland session via startplasmacompositor

2018-05-03 Thread Piotr Kloc
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=393820

Bug ID: 393820
Summary: Global shortcuts stop working on X after starting
Wayland session via startplasmacompositor
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.12.5
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: generic-wayland
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: pepk...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: 1.0

What happens:

1. When SDDM is used to start Wayland session then shortcuts still work on X
after logout.
2. When using tty with startplasmacompositor then shortcuts stop working on X
but are working on Wayland.
3. Shortcuts continue to work on Wayland with DM or tty.

Conclusion:
Starting Wayland session via tty breaks X global shortcuts handling in some
way.

yakuake, xsensors.

gnome-disks is not affected thanks csd, it has other problems caused by csd
though...
yakuake is interesting, normal windows change cursor on borders for resizing,
this one is locked in size and cursor does disappear for few ms when passing
borders from each side.

Can I record plasmashell session or do I have to wait for portal/pipewire
support to land, and then for OBS to catch up?

Standard cursor image is the problem here. Basically it happens when cursor

Sometime ago I was making some cleanup, at that time it seemed like a good idea
to remove oxygen from my system as I'm mostly using breeze. As it turns out, my
system lost ability to notify me about low battery status, which sucks when
watching fullscreen movie, only indication was suspending system. By that time
it's usually too late.

I'm not sure if it's just a packaging issue, if it is then I should probably
edit wiki to mention such detail. Or bug maintainers to add oxygen as
dependency to plasma. Otherwise upstream should move sounds to a different
package as breeze is preferred right now.

Well, I've setup Debian VM to test it. After some errors and googling it
compiled.

Here's what you need, in case of error just google bit ending with ".cmake" and
add debian to it.

g++
cmake
extra-cmake-modules
qt5base-dev
qtdeclarative5-dev
libkf5crash-dev
libkf5dbusaddons-dev
libkf5notifications-dev
libkf5notifyconfig-dev
gettext

Good luck.

I could have just googled how to compile KDE on Debian beforehand...

This patch has resolved notification misplacement completely for me. Spamming
notify-send is not causing issues.

Also, it seems to be partially fixed. Misplacing occurs only when I'm spamming
notify-send.

Created attachment 106130
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=106130=edit
"Mockup" kinda

I've tried developer unstable build today. Looks and works nicely, however I
may have a little proposal.

New systemsettings looks very nice, but I think that clickable area on back
button is too small for touchpad navigation.

How about expanding it to also cover text to the right ? It kinda feels XFCE
clunky.

I'm adding "mockup" in attachment to show better what I'm saying.

Say, I have firefox window open, If I decide to ctrl+c something from that
window then it will mostly work alright.

Problems start if I close firefox before pasting, most recently copied contents
will not paste, context menu will be greyed out.

What's more interesting is that clicking on such item in klipper does nothing,
I need to select other item from list and then back to what I wanted.

Tested on both Plasma X11 and Wayland. If it's a "security" feature then please
consider third paragraph to be my bug report.

I can confirm.
Thinkpad T430.
Intel HD 4000.

Little painful thing to happen at night, thank god for thinklight.

It happens when battery drops to 5%.
Must be a bug, it's quite illogical to increase brightness when battery is
about to die.
Audible notification is good enough ;)

Wallpaper in SDDM seems to reset. Possibly related to the new logic introduced
in 5.9.

I'm guessing that changing wallpaper should trigger file change in
/usr/share/sddm/themes/breeze/theme.conf.

Probably from:

[General]
type=color
color=#1d99f3

to:

[General]
type=image
#color=#1d99f3
image=file-in-/usr/share/sddm/themes/breeze/name.png

Or something along the lines, there's also theme.conf.user which maybe was the
target.

I've got around it by setting it manually in theme.conf.

After installing Arch on a new system I forgot to generate locale for pl_PL.
Thanks to that I realised that there is a bug in filelight.
When language is set to english then on main screen free and used space have
different color. Guess what, in polish it's all white.

Only main screen is affected.

I have similar issue with ALE-L21 (P8 Lite).
I can view Internal storage, until recently I was able to also view external
storage.
I also can view photos stored on SD card via Camera folder, which is
interesting.

Currently SD shows an empty folder without write permissions.

I'm not sure if it's related but I am unable to write to any Android SD card
via kio mtp file managers. That's via USB mtp connection.

Is kdeconnect using kio-mtp ? Just thinking out loud.

I have recompiled plasmashell with this patch. Now when copying files
plasmashell is not exceeding 4% CPU. When connecting with Wifi network it jumps
to 7% for a second. Much better than 25% making cpu fan go crazy.
5.8.4 on Arch
I hope there are no side effects.

Please backport it to 5.8 if possible.

Image thumbnails on desktop don't keep their aspect ratio.
When viewing Desktop in Dolphin everything is fine.
It's tripping my OCD quite much. Especially when image on desktop is showing
someone's face.
Changing icon size is not fixing this issue.

Reproduced on two different PCs.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Enable folder view (icons on whole desktop area)
2. Copy some images to desktop, say someone's selfie
3. Watch their face get squished on thumbnail

Reproduced with jpeg.

When launching some game for the first time it sets lower resolution than
native.
For example 1024x760 instead of say 1920x1080.
If at native resolution there is a plasmoid at right upper corner, it will be
adjusted accordingly for lower resolution.
However, if native resolution is restored, plasmoid will land at the center of
the screen.
You might say, it's problem with game, relic from older days. Maybe, but there
are far too many titles that do that at first run. Even some 2016 games.

Sure it can. SDDM can read from "/usr/share/sddm/faces/". That's how I got it
