What is your suggestion to solve this issue? Personally, I force single line
labels, use a small font size, and just live with the '...' ellipsis appearing
on longer names.

Yes, setting Width to Large, makes all labels appear correctly as in
screenshot04 attached. Icons seem too spaced apart though.

For example having the following folders in ~:

Desktop Documents Downloading Downloads

Changing the icon size in Dolphin, results in different line breaks on labels. 
Ex: 112 icon size: screenshot02
And increasing further to 128 example in screenshot03
