[kmail2] [Bug 338237] New: Feature Request: Account Wizard Detect google apps by DNS query

2014-08-13 Thread Pete
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=338237

Bug ID: 338237
Summary: Feature Request: Account Wizard Detect google apps by
DNS query
   Product: kmail2
   Version: 4.13.2
  Platform: Ubuntu Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: misc
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: k...@kthxbye.us

Hi,

I was trying to setup kmail for my google apps account on my own domain (you
can use gmail with your own domain name) but the server details could not be
retrieved. Technically the account details and servers are the same as for
gmail.com, just the username is different (u...@yourdomain.com instead of
u...@gmail.com).

I worked around by entering details for a real gmail account and then change
the user to my google apps domain username as I was too lazy to get all the
config details from googles help pages.

However it is easily detectable if a domain is using google apps by querying
the mx dns records which are the same for all google apps accounts and look
like this:

pete@lokalhorst:~$ nslookup -query=mx kthxbye.us
Server: 127.0.1.1
Address:127.0.1.1#53

Non-authoritative answer:
kthxbye.us mail exchanger = 20 alt1.aspmx.l.google.com.
kthxbye.us mail exchanger = 10 aspmx.l.google.com.
kthxbye.us mail exchanger = 30 aspmx4.googlemail.com.
kthxbye.us mail exchanger = 20 alt2.aspmx.l.google.com.
kthxbye.us mail exchanger = 30 aspmx5.googlemail.com.
kthxbye.us mail exchanger = 30 aspmx3.googlemail.com.
kthxbye.us mail exchanger = 30 aspmx2.googlemail.com.

Authoritative answers can be found from:
aspmx.l.google.com internet address = 74.125.136.27
alt2.aspmx.l.google.com internet address = 173.194.64.26
aspmx3.googlemail.com internet address = 173.194.64.27
aspmx2.googlemail.com internet address = 74.125.25.26

With these details the standard config for gmail could be pre-selected for the
account config in the wizard.

This is not really a big deal but it would be nice to see the config magically
appearing after entering a google apps mail address.

Keep up the great work. By the way, I couldn't select 4.13.3 as version number
which is shipped with Kubuntu 14.04.

Best regards, Pete

correctly (POP3)
   Product: kmail2
   Version: 4.13.2
  Platform: openSUSE RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: major

 Component: general
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org

If you copy a mail from input folder to another one, you can see it in the new
folder under Kmail, but if you look in the respective maildir sub-folders, it
happens very often, that you cannot find this mail in the choosed sub-folder
nor in the input one. It is loss.
This data loss happens also on creating new sub-folders. They are not written
in maildir resource.

It happens also under Version 4.13.3

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
already described in Details
Actual Results:
Enormous data loss, but I think the lost mail are saved in Akonadi database
without folder reference

Expected Results:
Mail lists in each folder should synced with the data in maildir

I just had it nearly kill my system using all memory + swap after it thought
it encountered invalid cert on davical server.

I can confirm this for 4.12.5. I encountered the same type of behavior: after a
problem verifying the server certificate (dav part of akonadi seems to be
unable to properly deal with being offline while starting up) the process took
all resources of one of my two CPU cores and started eating up GB of RAM
(killed it before it took down my system).

(In reply to m.wege from comment #2)
I mainly had this when I am using my 3G connection. But also when the system
starts up and the connection is still build. I also had this problem on
wireless networks which require a login

The main annoying part is the fact that there is not one but several error
messages and also that that it makes a sound. Which of course I could turn
of, but I would consider this a general problem. If there is a problem the
error message should be less intruding, because in most of the cases it wont
matter since the network will be restored.
So my suggestion would be only to notify the user if the problem exists for
a longer time (x min). X may be 10 min. And then only one notification for
all resources. May be after another x min another and so on.

I can second this request: whenever my upstream link to the internet breaks
(temporarily) or whenever I am on a network where no full connection to the
internet exists, a superfluous number of notification messages appears.

From time to time a mysterious Server Authentication - [name] of type DAV
groupware resource dialog pops up. The message is as follows:
 --- snip ---
The server failed the authenticity check ([server url]).
The certificate authority's certificate is invalid
The root certificate authority's certificate is not trusted for this purpose
The certificate cannot be verified for internal reasons
 --- snap ---
If I browse to the URL using Konqueror, KDE seems to trust the certificate.

I'm not sure when and why this happens (I think it comes from an instable
 IPv6 connection).[...]

I also encounter this on KDE 4.12.5. No ipv6 involved however. A nasty
consequence of this error is a massive CPU and RAM usage (see bug #310743)

[Akonadi] [Bug 338250] New: After upgrading to Kontact 4.14rc, folders are empry

2014-08-13 Thread Thomas Gideon
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=338250

Bug ID: 338250
Summary: After upgrading to Kontact 4.14rc, folders are empry
   Product: Akonadi
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Ubuntu Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: critical
  Priority: NOR
 Component: IMAP resource
  Assignee: chrig...@fastmail.fm
  Reporter: cm...@thecommandline.net
CC: kdepim-bugs@kde.org, vkra...@kde.org

I received an updated via the Kubuntu backports PPA. I have to IMAP resources
configured in Kontact which the Help menus now shows as version 4.14rc. One,
connecting to a DoveCot server, work just as well as before. The other,
connecting to Courier, seems to work except that no messages load when opening
a folder. The folder list is correct, the resource in AkonadiConsole, appears
to be running normally but I cannot access my messages. Using another client,
K-9 on my phone of Thunderbird on the very same machine, works fine. I tried
turning on logging and restarting Akonadi with akonadictl but the generated
logs don't show any errors.
