Sometimes the akonadi maildir resource crashes. As far as I have observed it,
it only happens when I change to mail in another folder. However it does not
always happen and so far I was not able to find exact steps to reproduce it.
However it happens quite regularly for me.

This is using the th 19.03.80 version of KDE applications.

Backtrace is attached

[Akonadi] [Bug 384822] New: Mail filter with no longer work

2017-09-18 Thread Christian Trippe
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=384822

Bug ID: 384822
Summary: Mail filter with no longer work
   Product: Akonadi
   Version: 5.6.1
  Platform: openSUSE RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Mail Filter Agent
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: christiande...@web.de
  Target Milestone: ---

I have several mail filters for a pop3 account. All the mails are downloaded to
one local folder. If one now selects all these mails and chooses "Apply all
filters manually" the mails where a filter with criteria "To"=... match get
moved to the correct destination folder, however mails where a filter with
criteria "List-Post"=... applies, stay in the original folder.

This used to work with previous kmail/akonadi versions. The problem persists
already since quite some time, so I unfortunatelly cannot point to the last
working release.

  Target Milestone: ---

Set up some filters that do not apply automatically un incoming mails (my
personal workaround for the duplicate messages due to filtering problems) but
configure them to be applied for manual filtering

Then select a couple of mails, go to the contect menu and select "manually
apply all filters"

result -> Nothing happens
expected result -> filters should be applied an mails moved to the correct
folders as specified in the filters

I am not 100% sure when this behaviour started, but at least with kmail/akonadi
form the 17.04.03 release and I am quite certain that it alreadywas present
with 17.04.02.

2017-02-28 Thread Christian Trippe
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=376981

--- Comment #1 from Christian Trippe <christiande...@web.de> ---
As additional info this seems to be caused by duplicated messages in one folder
(which get created via bug 322126). As soon as on tries to display such a
duplicated message the content of this message will never be displayed. After
such an attempt also no other message will get displayed until kmail is
restarted.

After the upgrade to KDE Application 16.12 kmail no longer displays mails for
certain local folders for me.

When waiting long enough I get the following error dislpayed:

Unable to fetch item from backend (collection -1) : Unable to retrieve item
from resource: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote
application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the
reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.

Any hint on how to debug this further is appreciated.

I even completely rebuild the akonadi-database. However I am back at the same
behaviour after a few days of usage.

Marking the bug as major, as mails are no longer displayed, making kmail
unusable.

[kmail2] [Bug 362103] New: header in message view not remembered after kmail restart

2016-04-22 Thread Christian Trippe via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=362103

Bug ID: 362103
Summary: header in message view not remembered after kmail
restart
   Product: kmail2
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: openSUSE RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: christiande...@web.de

If you choose another header than "Kmail 5.2". This header is not remembered
after a restart of kmail.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. choose e.g. "Fancy header" under view header
2. close kmail
3. start kmail again

Actual Results:
"Fancy header" is no longer chosen but the header "Kmail 5.2"

Thanks for the quick fix and for the hint about kdepim-addons. Installing this

I see the same crash in openSUSE. It also happens with standalone kmail, so I
guess this might be the better product. I am not sure if this is related but
starting with kmail 16.03.90 where also the header in the normal mail view is
missing and cannot be chosen from the menu.

Status: UNCONFIRMED

Configure a identy in kmail to have a signature but do not check the enable
signature in that dialog.
Now write a mail for this identiy and try to add this signature via the menu -
attach - append signature. No signature is attached. This worked fine with
kmail from KDE 4.12 but does not work any longer with kmail from KDE 4.13

Automatically adding the signature to every mail when the enable signature
button in the identiy configuration dialog is checked still works.

Reproducible: Always

Thanks for the quick response.

I had to recreate the my pim settings for 4.13 during beta phase and apparently
missed the extra automatic append signature configuration which is
independent of the identy configuration dialog.

Everything works now as expected. Thanks for your work on kmail!

[Akonadi] [Bug 322871] mail filters do not work for incoming messages if the destination folder of the pop3 resource is not the inbox

2013-11-19 Thread Christian Trippe
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=322871

--- Comment #3 from Christian Trippe christiande...@web.de ---
Hi Andras,

do I understand you correctly that this is supposed to work after an akonadi
restart?

This bug is not about mails not beeing moved to the destination folder of a
pop3 resource. This works fine. I did not even check if this only works after a
restart of akoandi, but about mail filters not working in this setup.

I can stll reproduce the following with KDE 4.11

Setup a pop3 resource with destinaton folder A (!=inbox) and A not beeing a
subfolder of the inbox but on the same level, e.g. direct subfolder of the
local folder.
Setup a filter to only apply to messages from this pop3-resource (this means do
not apply it to the local folder resource). This filter should move the message
to the folder B which is a subfolder of A.
Now receive a message which should be moved to folder B by the filter. However
the message will end in folder A.

However I agree that this issue is miner.

Christian

 Component: Mail Filter Agent
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: christiande...@web.de

A filter which is configured to only apply to a pop3-resource does not work
when receiving the mail if the pop3 resource has a destination folder which is
not the inbox (SpecialCollectionAttribute=inbox).

Manual applying the filter works.

It also works directly when receiving the message, if the filter is also
applied to the local folder resource.

Related and already marked as fixed bugs are:
bug 256389
bug 308008

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Configure a filter to only apply for a pop3 resource which has a destination
folder != inbox
2. Receive mails where the filter is expected to work, e.g. move it to another
folder

Actual Results:
mail is in the destination folder of the pop3 resource

Expected Results:
filter should have worked and mail is in the destination folder of the filter

  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org

Since the update to 4.11 RC 1 mails get added to akonadi again and again.
I have a local maildir resource and I am using pop3 accounts. Since 4.11 RC1
mails in most of my local folders are displayed several times in kmail and one
finds them also several times in the parttable. And the number is increasing
Clearing the akoandi cache via akonadiconsole helps until all the content of
the folder is added again to akonadi.
I did not jet find a pattern, which of my local folders are effected, as I have
folders without duplictates and others which contain every message 11 times.

Since bug did not happen for me with 4.11 beta. Please tell me if there a logs,
etc. I can provide to help. Comment 1 in bug 322126 sounds similar, so maybe
this one is a duplicate. But this bug is so grave IMHO, so I decided to make a
new report just in case these are actual differnt bugs.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Run kmail
2. Wait
3. Get the message 10345 new mails for kde; 5000 new mails for
4. You still have 10345 mails in your .local/share/local-mail//kde folder
but 20690 mails are displayed for this folder in kmail/akonadiconsole
5.The next 10345 mails are added to this folder in akonadi

I switched now to 4.11 RC1 and see the following problem with filtering:
When I select all mails in my inbox and press CTRL-J, after the mail filter
agent has done its work. I have all mails duplicated. I now have all mails
 in inbox already 5 times!

I see this behaviour too and for me it started with KDE 4.11 RC1, I did not
notice this with the previous beta.

I created a complete new setup with KDE 4.9.2 or 4.9.3 and have collected a few
entries but cannot figure out a pattern. Using only pop3 accounts a maildir
resource

christian@asterix:~ ls -alh .local/share/akonadi/file_db_data/
insgesamt 1,5M
drwxr-xr-x 2 christian users 312K 15. Feb 21:38 .

-rw-r--r-- 1 christian users 7,4K 21. Nov 19:26 159852_r0

If there is any additional information or debugging I could try feel free to
tell. The only guess I have so far is that this might be related to filtering
as I think I have only seen this for mails which were run through a filter when
downloading.

--- Comment #54 from Christian Trippe christiande...@web.de ---
I still get duplicated messages with KDE 4.9.3 when downloading mails from a
pop3 account which then get directly moved to a subfolder via a filter. Both
the original and the duplicate message are displayed in the destiantion folder
of the filter and you can remove the duplicate by right click on the folder
and choosing refresh folder.

[Bug 306997] New: impossible to open an existing contact by right click in kmail

2012-09-18 Thread Christian Trippe
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=306997

Bug ID: 306997
  Severity: normal
   Version: 4.9.1
  Priority: NOR
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
Summary: impossible to open an existing contact by right click
in kmail
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux
  Reporter: christiande...@web.de
  Hardware: Other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
 Component: general
   Product: kmail2

It is very usefull when adding a new contact from a mail to be able to edit the
contact. With kmail1 one could right-click on the mail adress and if the
contact was
already in the database, the menu had the option open the contact.

With kamil2 even if the contact already exists, the menu still give
the opportunity to add the contact instead of proposing to edit the
contact.

Reproducible: Always

[Bug 283682] KMail duplicates filtered messages

2012-07-18 Thread Christian Trippe
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=283682

--- Comment #28 from Christian Trippe christiande...@web.de ---
First, thanks for working on the filter problems!

Using KDE 4.8 with the minimal 4.8 patch I sometimes still see duplicated
messages, but much less then before. And it looks like the duplicates now
always have content.

I'll report back how 4.9 works for me.

This bug is partly still valid for kmail2 (using KDE 4.8.4).

Choosing a different header style in a particular message window leads to the
beahviour that this header style is displayed for all other new separatly
opened message windows in this kmail/kontact session but no longer present
after a kmail restart.

Choosing a different header style from the main kontact/kmail window is
remembered between sessions.

Is there an opensuse repository or rpm so I can test it without compiling?

In general it makes more sense to ask these questions at the openSUSE bugzilla,
mailinglist, etc as upstream as you do not even tell with openSUSE version with
which repos you use. But in this case there is already an openSUSE bug
(https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=729829) open for this issue with a
link to an repo with fixed packages where I am waiting for feedback. So if you
have specific needs please ask there.

As described above. akregator/kontact crashes every time when closing a tab

--- Comment #11 from Christian Trippe christiandehne web de 2011-09-18

As written in my duplicate report. The missing mails are neither in
~/.local/share/.local-mail.directory nor
~/.local/share/akonadi/file_db_data

As I now already have several mails in the thread with the missing mail I
searched in akonadi for the return-path (which seems to be unique for the
opensuse-kde list), but no entry in the database was found. (I verified that I
could actually find other mails this way.)

I am not sure if here the problem may be, that I already restarted akonadi
since the download of the missing mail. I will verify this as soon as I
recognize another missing mail.
(That no mail is in the above mentioned folders is definitely true also before
a restart of akonadi.)

To answer the other questions:
- Local Folders is a maildir resource
- Most of my mail is moved via filters automatically to other folders. But I am
quite sure I have seen missing mails also appear for mails, where no filter
applies. Also the mail is not accidentally in another folder.
- Empty trash on exit is enabled.

I hope this helps to nail down the problem.

[Bug 282296] New: mails appear twice in .local/share/akonadi/file_db_data

2011-09-18 Thread Christian Trippe
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=282296

   Summary: mails appear twice in
.local/share/akonadi/file_db_data
   Product: Akonadi
   Version: 4.7
  Platform: openSUSE RPMs
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: major
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: christiande...@web.de

Version: 4.7 (using KDE 4.7.1)
OS:Linux

When downloading mails via a pop3 account, it happens that mails appear twice
in .local/share/akonadi/file_db_data but only once in
.local/share/.local-mail.directory/

In this case kmail shows the message twice. If you now tell kmail to remove
duplicate messages in the folder both messages in kmail are deleted and also
both entries in .local/share/akonadi/file_db_data and the one in
.local/share/.local-mail.directory/.

It may be that this only happens for mails where a filter on incoming messages
is applied which directly moves them to another folder. I will verify this and
report back.

Other maybe useful informations:
- My local mail folder is a maildir resource.
- I am affected by bug 282160 akoandi does not delete mails from
.local/share/akonadi/file_db_data
- Thomas McGuire said in bug 271231, that this is not a bug of the pop3
resource.

Please tell me what additional information may be useful.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
see above

Actual Results:
some mails are shown twice in kmail

Expected Results:
mails are only shown once

OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.37.6-0.7-desktop
Compiler: gcc

Because the severity was changed to normal, I want to point out why I filled

exactly the case if you call Remove duplicated messages in kmail, as the
duplicated message is completely lost in this case.

--- Comment #8 from Christian Trippe christiandehne web de 2011-09-17

As Dominik was faster, I just want to provide some additional information/my
opinion.

IMHO this bug is not about not downloading the mails from the server, but about
not saving them locally.
1.) This bug also happens, when you don't have the pop3 resource configured to
leave messages on the server, but if you have it configured to remove them
after download. This is of course hard to verify, but I noticed missing mails
on mailing list posts first in this configuration and only after this switched
to Leave messages on the server.
2.) Using Leave messages on the server-configuration: For me it is the same
as for Dominik the UID of the locally missing message is in
akonadi_pop3_resource_rc. And AFAIU this means the message was downloaded from
the server.

This means the summary should probably better be Not all mails downloaded via
pop3 are saved locally.

Thanks for taking care of the bug!

[Bug 282160] New: akoandi does not delete mails from .local/share/akonadi/file_db_data

2011-09-16 Thread Christian Trippe
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=282160

Summary: akoandi does not delete mails from
.local/share/akonadi/file_db_data
   Product: Akonadi
   Version: 4.7
  Platform: openSUSE RPMs
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Maildir Resource
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: christiande...@web.de

Version: 4.7 (using KDE 4.7.1)
OS:Linux

As suggested in bug 271231 this is a new bug report about the fact that akonadi
does not delete the content of .local/share/akonadi/file_db_data

Although I checked that the cache policy of the root local folder is corrected
as described in the other bug.
In KMail, right-click on Local Folders, I clicked Folder Properties, went
to the Retrieval tab. There, the option Retrieve message bodies on demand
was checked, with the keep message bodies locally for time set to 1 minute.

Still I have there mails back to May.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
see above

Actual Results:
.local/share/akonadi/file_db_data is filled with mail.

Expected Results:
.local/share/akonadi/file_db_data should only be a cache

I have to correct myself. The bug also happens when no filter (which moves the
mail directly into another folder) applies.

But for me it seems to happen less often in this case. But that is a bit hard
to determine.

[Bug 280008] New: kmail silently causes data loss when when fetching mail from a pop3 server

2011-08-13 Thread Christian Trippe
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=280008

Summary: kmail silently causes data loss when when fetching
mail from a pop3 server
   Product: kmail2
   Version: 4.7
  Platform: openSUSE RPMs
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: major
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: christiande...@web.de

Version: 4.7 (using KDE 4.7.0)
OS:Linux

Have kmail configured to fetch mail from a pop3 account.

Sometimes it happens that kmail/akonadi fatches mail from the pop3 server but
the mail never appears in kmail.

I noticed this because on some mailing-lists I am subscribed to, mails in a
thread were missing in kmail.

As I am affected by bug 271231 (akoandi stores mails twice locally) I did a
grep for some unique string in such a missing mail (after I configured kmail to
leave the messages on the server and no longer delete them) for the relevant
folders.

The string was not found in ~/.local/share/.local-mail.directory and
~/.local/share/akonadi/file_db_data but in the binary-files
~/.local/share/akonadi/db_data/akonadi/parttable.ibd and
~/.local/share/akonadi/db_data/ib_logfile1

I am using the mysql backend for akonadi. I never noticed this with kmail2 from
KDE 4.6!

If I would have to guess I would say something between 1 out of 20 to 50 mails
is affected by this.

I see this behaviour with two accounts.

Please tell me which additional information I can provide to solve this bug.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
see above

Actual Results:
kmail does not show some mails after fetching them from a pop3 server and they
are also not saved! This means data loss, usually without a chance to notice
it.

Expected Results:
kmail saves and shows all mails.

--- Comment #1 from Christian Trippe christiandehne web de 2011-08-13

One important additional information: It seems to be that the data loss only
happens for mails for which a filter *for incoming mail* is applied.

Today I disabled all filter for incoming mail and only applied the filters
manually via Ctrl+J. So far there has not been any new mails lost.

Additionally the fact that mails are shown twice in kmail, see
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=271231#c9, does also not happen any
longer.

If my observations turn out to be wrong, I will report back.

I have the same problem with akonadi and kmail2 from KDE 4.7.0.
For me there is an additional problem. Sometimes mails are shown twice in
kmail. Then you can find really two entries in
~/.local/share/akonadi/file_db_databut only one in
~/.local/share/.local-mail.directory/

Now choosing remove duplicates often leads to result that all of these entries
are deleted and the mail is lost!

Not sure if I should fill this as an additional bug?

Example:
The incoming mail contains

After choosing reply (to all) The mail-address with name is correctly shown in
the composer window

After clicking send, kmail says The mail was send successfully.

But if you look in the mail in the send-mail folder, The mail-address and the

Choosing only reply to such a sender you can even create a succesful sent ,ail

As written in bug 256389, which is maybe a duplicate of this one, I found the
following facts which make filtering of incoming massages not work:
a) If the filter is set to apply only for a selected (pop3) account filtering
does work on kmail start up or when applied manually via Ctrl+J. It does _not_
work when fetching new mail with a running kmail. It works if the filter is set
to apply for all accounts.
b) Have your account configured to have the 'target folder' different from the
standard inbox
= filter do not work for incoming mail (neither on kmail start up nor when
fetching new mail with running kmail), only when applied manually (Ctrl+J)

The crash happened again. So it is at least reproducible sometimes.

[Bug 256389] Filters do not work with POP mai agent

--- Comment #3 from Christian Trippe christiandehne web de 2010-11-29
21:18:58 ---
Another configuration in addition to the one in comment 2 which makes filters
for pop3 accounts work/not work is:
a) Have your account configured to have the 'target folder' as the standard
inbox = filter also work for incoming mail
b) Have your account configured to have the 'target folder' as another folder
= filter do not work for incoming mail, only when applied manually

[Bug 258204] New: kontact crashed after resolving a conflict dialog in kmail2

2010-11-28 Thread Christian Trippe
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=258204

Summary: kontact crashed after resolving a conflict dialog in
kmail2
   Product: kontact
   Version: 4.6 pre
  Platform: openSUSE RPMs
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: christiande...@web.de

Application: kontact (4.6 pre)
KDE Platform Version: 4.5.80 (4.6 Beta1)
Qt Version: 4.7.1
Operating System: Linux 2.6.36-89-default i686
Distribution: openSUSE 11.3 (i586)

-- Information about the crash:
kmail2 (embedded in kontact) showed one of its often occurring conflict dialogs
regarding an email, where it asks if one should take the left or the right or
both sides. After I choose the left side kontact crashed.

As this dialog pops up rather often and the crashed occured so far only once, I
am not sure if/how good the bug is reproducable.

I will attach a screenshot of such a confilct dialog (when I see one again.)

I updated to KDE 4.6 beta1 and the migration tool only migrated 4 of ~20
filters I had in kmail 1.

I can reproduce this with KDE 4.6 beta 1, if the filter is set to apply only
for a selected (pop3) account. It works if the filter is set to apply for all
accounts.

I wanted to add that the crash is reproducible for me in the following way
mentioned in bug 238319

I deleted an email (with a large attachment ~12 MiB ) in my trash folder which
is on an disconneted imap account. Then kontact crashed. It may take some time
until kontact crashes (up to ~ 1 minute). But I have tried this now 3 times and
it crashes every time for me.

I am using the KDE:Unstable repo from openSUSE this means. KDE 4.5 beta 1 and
kdepim from 4.4
