I forgot to mention earlier: my laptop is running KDE 4.6.5
My home system is running KNotes 4.8.5 on KDE 4.8.5 (Fedora 16).

Okay, first boot on my home machine and I can confirm that the problem is still
happening with 4.8.5.
I left 4 notes open when I shut-down, with different content, colors, shapes

believe it or not, but as I mentioned - upgrading networkmanager (from lunar)
is a valid workaround. I've done this on several machines by now, other people
who tried didn't restart networkmanager or their machines

Installing network-manager from lunar repository does the trick

I think this has to do with CALDAV. I'm importing google contacts and calendar
via caldav - afaik this is often a cause of Unable to fetch item from backend
