One year passed and this issue still bugs me. I tried many mail clients, all of
them had their own issues, but every single one did cache mails for traditional
IMAP.

I tested this on 2 PCs with 4 different accounts:
web.de and googlemail (2 accounts) remove the i. But I could not reproduce
this with an udmedia.de-account.

Installed 4.8.1 today - nothing changed. Started kontact, let it idle, run into
disconnect, wait for reconnection, click an unread mail - nothing happens, just
