What is the suggested way to use Kmail these days without this?
What I'm forced to do is filter on unread to see what the e-mails are, then get
rid of that filter and then filter

That works but makes it totally unusable. No other email / webmail client
makes the emails disappear when browsing through them in unread filter mode.
