The bug was discovered during a KMail bughunting weekend. It was one of many glitches we found. Normally I'm not using KMail as my mail client. I did indeed upgrade from 4.8.x to 4.9. no clean-install and I had this bug on Sabayon Linux. I couldn't find a commit tackling this. Maybe you remember? Kmail (neither when started seperately nor when started with Kontact). It remembers the window size as well as the column widths and splitter position. Comment from the KDE usability team: However, if it can be reproduced by others, it is a bug that has to be fixed, also from a usability standpoint.
