Perhaps I am misunderstanding your question but there are different themes which
show you this information in different formats.

You can use the one I created, it looks like Gaim and shows you the date_time in
a tooltip when you hover over a message. You can also hack one of the existing
themes to show this

Well, I think most of the themes only show time because of space constraints. If
you look at my theme, I did not want any of that in the normal view, the user
can hover over a particular item and get the timestamp info if they wish.
