"Number" in English

The use of the word "number" in the English original is too loose. I've 
run into many instances when "number" is used to signify what should be 
"digit" and/or "numeral." "Number" should be restricted to the concept 
of number, "digit" and/or "numeral" to the symbolic expression of 
number. The two should not be confused.
