Hi Romi,

You've probably seen it too... I've been on the road since January, meeting
with people like you all across the U.S., and I've seen first-hand how our food
system is failing both farmers and citizens.

It's hard to dream big at a time when Congress is acting so dysfunctional, but
if we want to fix the big problems with our food system, we need to keep
pushing for big change, and the Farm Bill is a great opportunity to do that.

Will you take a minute to tell your elected representatives that you care what
they do with the Farm Bill? They need to hear from you if they're going to do
the right thing.

For several months, I've been on the road talking to people about my new book,
Foodopoly, and it's given me the chance to hear from ordinary people across the
country about the problems they're facing with their food. I've talked to
family farmers who are struggling to make ends meet. I've heard from moms who
want to feed their children the safest food but aren't sure how to do that.
I've been touched by these stories, but also profoundly inspired by the
activists I've met who are determined to fix our broken food system. With such
passion on our side, I know that we'll prevail in the end.

Fixing the Farm Bill in 2013 is the first step. Please join me in taking action
to tell Congress to fix the Farm Bill.

All the best,

Tell your members of Congress:

We need a better Farm Bill!
Dear Romi,

Stop me if you've heard this one before:

Months ago, Congress missed a big deadline. They patched over their mistake
with some half-measures that don't really work. Now they have a chance to fix
their mistakes properly — but it's far from guaranteed that they'll do the
right thing.

That's why they need to hear from you right now.

The particular mistake I'm talking about is the Farm Bill. You probably know
that the Farm Bill is a massive, critically important bill that affects almost
every aspect of the food we eat and the livelihoods of our farmers. It also
funds safety-net nutrition programs like food stamps. The Farm Bill is vast,
complex, and has the potential to protect family farmers and organic food, and
to keep factory farms in check. Tell your legislators how much this matters:
they need to get the Farm Bill right.

Last year's Farm Bill was a casualty of the "fiscal cliff" debacle. Rather than
pass a new, five-year bill, Congress extended a stripped-down version of the
old bill, one that removed many of the programs we care most about. We lost
programs that support small farmers when they're just starting out, lost
funding for conservation programs, and missed a big opportunity to add new
rules that protect our food.

Now, Congress has a chance to fix the Farm Bill. Both the House and Senate will
start working on this bill in committees next week. They need to know that
you're watching them, and that you want them to fix their mistakes. Urge your
Members of Congress to protect consumers, family farmers and fair food in the
new Farm Bill.
