The Musical Legacy of The Great March Featuring Ross Altman Saturday, August 31st - 2:00 PM Presented by The Allendale Branch Library 1130 South Marengo Avenue, Pasadena 91106 (626) 744-7260 Folk singer Ross Altman will present a program of folk music originally performed at the August 28th, 1963 March on Washington by Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Len Chandler, Odetta and Peter, Paul and Mary. The performance will also include a few songs that became prominent in the months leading up to the March from the 1963 Newport Folk Festival with Pete Seeger and the Mississippi Freedom Singers and in the aftermath (such as Richard Farina’s “Birmingham Sunday”) and will conclude with a 50th anniversary remembrance of the assassination of John F. Kennedy on November 22nd, 1963. All Ages Welcome. Free and Open to the Public. Light Refreshments Will Be Served. Len Chandler and I will be interviewed on KCRW's Which Way LA (89.9 FM) hosted by Warren Olney Wednesday evening at 7:00 PM on the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington. We will be on the show to discuss the themes of my upcoming program The Musical Legacy of The Great March this Saturday August 31 at 2:00 PM at the Allendale Branch of the Pasadena Public Library.
