Rather than trying to put dragons around the whole garter, couldn't you make
a very small dragon motif and stitch it on to the centre of the width of the
garter in the same way as some people sew a small ribbon rose with bow.

Could you use the head of the dragon only along the outside edge in the same
way as my bells do, it wont show as well as on a flat piece of lace.

I agree that something as complex as a dragon would get lost in the
gathering of a garter. But clearly there is a reason you

I'm writing to ask if anyone can give me information about lacemaking in two

I've been asked about Calella, which is apparently a lacemaking centre, so I

Though I think I'd go with an oriental dragon, not a representation of Smaug!
This might bring us back to Hausdrachen again--the motifs and mats that

Hello Jane and all spiders ,
Calella is a location 50 Km. from Barcelona on Costa Brava coast. It is
not a lace center though a lace day Fair takes place every year, usually
in September, at seaside.
Very near Calella and 40 Km. from Barcelona, is the village of Arenys de

In the following recipe, I am learning that the meaning of the word clove is
not clear. Does it refer to cloves, or to cloves of garlic?
The recipe is that for Spanish-rice Skillet, on p 174 of the current

Personally I would say it is a clove, if you cook it with rice and then
remove it you get a lovely nutty tasting rice. The same with a bay leaf
and/or whole onion - just make sure you remove it before serving the rice.

I have several editions of BHG cook books (I used to collect them), and

I googled spanish rice clove and got a whole list of

none listed the spice clove.
I would say to use the garlic in the recipe in
