Hi Avital,
Your comment that majordomo is becoming creaky is of some concern. It is
only to be expected though after being in use all those years and technology
advancing. Should we be looking at updating in some way? Perhaps we could
all contribute a little to the cost as I am sure there

Aah Nottingham! I was trying to think which Lace Guild convention it

Somehow there seems to be a shallowness about the discussions on that
group which doesn't happen with Arachne, but I can't really say why it
is. It's not just that Arachne has long established members;

I would agree with this. There is something really special about
Arachne that doesn't seem to happen in any other group. However, it
is possible to set up groups on Yahoo which are moderated, and people
can only join if approved, it seems though that the discussions on
those groups are,

I meant only that majordomo is not as user-friendly as some of the
newer programs. But it does work! It just has some difficulty dealing

P.S.
In a way, Majordomo is quite appropriate for our list. Arachne is 14
(I think) years old, which is ancient by Internet standards. Most of
us aren't spring chickens. So it's no surprise that our server
software is old, creaky, and reliable. tongue in cheek

A few years ago, there was a lot of talk about how many years everyone

had her list. It was from 1995. I was on it. That is the ONLY reason I

I am not sure how long I have been on the list. Maybe a year or a little
longer but not by much. I started off learning lace from a book and then
eventually found a night class in bobbin lace which has helped me

I've joined and left and rejoined a few times. I think it was Avital who
first told me about the list. I was just a tatter at first (and not a nun

after I joined the first time there was an Arachne commemorative bobbin that
I'm not sure exactly when I joined Arachne. It would be around 2005/6 I
think. As a self taught lacemaker who has had only an occassional access to
a tutor the members of this group have been invaluable for their help. The
format is quite old fashioned compared to Yahoo etc., but I like that. I
Hi Everyone,
I'm mainly a lurker with an occasional post. I joined in late 1996, I
found Arachne after Jacqui Southworth's article 'internetting' in Lace

mostly needlework with little lace so was delighted to find a list

and so problems are perhaps inherent.

Dear Lesley,
How wonderful that you had this experience at Gawthorpe Hall.
Sometime in the 1980's I went to Gawthorpe. At that time, it was shabby,
and very cold. Still, my friends and I had a wonderful time looking at
laces and a variety of other needlework. Many pieces had been laid
