Ilske Thomsen has again given a gift to all our lace makers: two patterns for
Christmas cards made with grounds. http://lynxlace.com/christmastree.html
A simple idea but very pretty.

A google search for crochet cotton 20 immediately brings up lots of
places. Also many craft shops and probably even Hobbycraft will stock this
thread.

An old Swedish pillow I saw many years ago had this saw-toothed
feature. This enabled one to move the pillow very slightly and the
whole was kept in position with a piece of wood rather like a tongue
depresser.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Dear Lacefriends,
what are your experiences with three dimensional lace-works, done in a light
sort of stitch. For example a cube with about 12 x 12 x 12 cm.
When you had finished it and it was lying or standing somewhere what happened.
Fall the sides inside or perhaps outside. Did it look like

Hello Ilske and everyone
You are right, the wire thread doesn't always help as a support. I
coated the lace liberally with fabric stiffener, and before it dried,
dabbed the area with a damp paper towel to take away excess starch,
and so the holes were not filled with stiffener. The disadvantage
It looks like a netting shuttle to me.

Yep- it's a netting shuttle. From the size, it'd be used to make rather fine
nets. If it was originally with the tatting shuttles or other
needlework-related items, it was probably used to make the ground net for
various embellished nets such as lacis.

I wouldn't have thought netting shuttle at first, with a pinched
end like a tatting shuttle. I have several sizes of the style that are
used flat with a central prong, but the one Sherry has could be a
Norwegian fish net shuttle.

You are a wonderful group. I have been sent a picture of the bobbin I want.

I am going with a netting shuttle even though I can not find a similar one
in any of my books.
Netting shuttles come in all shapes and sizes depending upon the amount of
string (whatever) needs to be curled up on the bobbin, the fineness of the
net being made and finally, as I think possible
