Here's a link to some photographs on an eBay page, where someone is
selling RARE 17THC. ITALIAN RETICELLA LACE 4 YARDS!. While I can't
say anything about the lace, nor the description, I do think the images
are worth a look, especially the close-ups of the work.

I've looked at those pictures. I don't see any reason to think it machine
made. The bars that look like Venetian braid are made by needle weaving
over 4 foundation threads. That can be done on fabric threads left intact, as
in Hardanger, or it can be done as pure needle lace. Please look
