Fancy Lacemaking getting to the Olympics! Wonderful!! Lace has "arrived"
( after about 500 years!!! :) )
Yes, - in answer to Alice - there were bobbins hanging from the pillow, and
the lacemaker was toying with them as she stood there, - but not making any
lace, I don't think!

Thank you to everyone who has made suggestions about the wire frames
needed for some Chrysanthemum lace.
The problem has been solved. A fellow Arachne has kindly offered to
order me a set since the shipping from Germany to UK to US is cheaper
than from Germany to US.
When they arrive, I will
Go to CBC coverage of closing ceremony. The lacemaker with a bolster is in the
center, choir and dancers in lace costumes start at 2:20. Lovely!
It's a long link, olympics.cbc.ca/ etc.

At Opening Ceremony there was a performance of weaving with lit-up strands.
And now, at Closing Ceremony, this Lace Dance and the big green tree. Here
we felt Olympic Ceremonies like a Tribute to Brazilian Popular Art and
Handcraft but I personally liked Tribute to
Hello Beth,
I recently posted about a V & A exhibition, but it wasn't lace and it

Wow, did you see the Brazilian lace making lady and her pillow? At the closing

The V & A lace is now âat Blythe House, just off Kensington Olympia - That
is the nearest train station.
You must liaise with them as early as possible. For a while when my
daughter was living in the UK (and just round the corner from Blythe
House), I only managed to visit once for an
Hi,
You have to get organised as the whole of the lace collection of the V has
been moved to another large house in or near London. I cannot remember the
name of it, but you have to contact the V to gain access anyway so you can
liaise with them.

Hi fellow Arachnids,
For people living in the UK (or anyone else who can get it on their computer)
go to BBC iPlayer;- Olympic Closing Ceremony. It is about 1 hour 14 mins into
the ceremony.
Well worth having a second or third look. I think that the dancers are also
dressed as lace pillows.
I think I remember a post on Arachne a while back about a textile exhibit at
the V until the autumn, which had some lace trimmed items? Or possibly at
another London venue.
I unexpectedly have to go to London one Saturday in September & could have a
few hours free to go & see it, but my
There's a video clip on it on an Australian Yahoo news site, Here's a Tiny
Url of it http://tinyurl.com/zeszpkg. It's about 7 or 8 pictures down from
the top. I don't know how long it will be there for.

Did you see the closing ceremony with the tribute to bobbin lace? What a
surprise! And so lovely. I would have liked to have seen the working side
of the pillow to see if there were really bobbins on it, or just the finished
piece of lace. Probably just the lace.
